Summer Street Fest

The summer festival season is officially underway, with much of Munich celebrating the annual Streetlife Festival this weekend, which stretched most of the length of Leopold and Ludwigstrasse and into the Altstadt. For those familiar with Munich’s active summer cultural season, you can expect to see even more as the city celebrates its 850th birthday this year. And this car-free gathering, that shut down several of Munich’s busiest streets, is just the beginning with a theme of eco-friendly ways to improve life in Munich. Festival organizers expected 300,000 attendees this year, but I have my doubts. We showed up at 3:30 on Saturday and they were still setting up. Combine that with some HUGE rainstorms and Germany’s first game in Eurocup 2008 and attendance may have been limited. But if you’re interested in some of this summer’s other events, your best options are Munich Found Magazine and in Munchen magazines, or you can check muenchen.de or Munich Blog.

I love the sidewalk art and love what you are doing! I am never out enough to document what goes on here, nor do I think it's as exciting...

The street fest looks enjoyable even if it's just to enjoy for a short stroll.

Ah yes, summer in Munich! Sun bathing in the English Garden and swimming in the Eisbach. You are lucky! I have on my desk a 0,5l BrauAG Bier stein from those days that I keep my pencils in. I think I need to clean it out and have a bier in it today instead.

Hey kelly,
I'm with you on all the summer activities, but unfortunately the weather has not quite cooperated. Our hopes are up for the coming weeks though. I will tell you, as gas prices go up across the world, the price of huge beers remains the same at about 70 to 80 cents per bottle. It is an amazing place. We will raise one to you tonight. All the best.

Thanks, Troy! I really love your blog. It has been so long...too long...since I was a student in Munich. I love getting to visit it every day through your lens! If you get to Schwabing, I would love to see the Munchener Freiheit area again.
