Munich has jumped into the running as a candidate city (or region) to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. As most people know, Munich hosted the 1972 Olympics (hence the photo of the Olympia Center here), and if approved it would be the only city in history to host both the Summer and Winter games. Munich is teaming up with Garmisch-Partenkirchen for all skiing events and Schonau for tobogganing, luge & skeleton - while the opening/closing ceremonies and big skating/hockey competitions would take place in Munich. Garmisch already hosted the winter Olympic flame in 1936. Already in the running against Munich is Reno (USA) and Pyongyang (S.
