It was a story about a nerdy high school boy who restores a 1958 Plymouth Fury into mint condition, and then soon becomes possessed by Christine – which has a life all its own, several in fact. Of course, the movie has nothing to do with Munich, but this car was so out of place on the streets of Munich that I immediately made the connection. The nameplate “Butchers” on the back of the car helped connect the car to the movie. It’s quite often you find vintage cars in Munich, but not generally vintage American Cars – and it seemed everyone passing by stopped to take a look.Thursday, May 15, 2008

I'm glad I don't watch scary movies, or things like this would give me nightmares! Neat shot.
Now, I think this car lives not far from me in Lamontstrasse, Old Bogenhausen. (At least that's where I saw it this morning)
Alas, Chuck, Troy's pic of he car is very flattering. The bodywork is far from mint; the paint isn't glossy, and the fenders have an uneven surface. That's unusual for a vintage car in Munich, where fascinating, immaculately restored Mercedes are certainly a sight on Bogenhausen streets. Germany considers itself not just the inventor of the car, but the curator of its history. Especially southern Germany, home to Porsche, Mercedes-Benz (Stuttgart) and closer to home in Bavaria, Audi (ingoldstadt) and BMW (Munich).
The effect which BMW has on our car culture here in Munich is extraordinary. We're obsessed!
