Perhaps there is no better place to be stranded in the mountains than the lavish Ski resort of Kitzbuhel. At only a 1.5 hour drive from Munich, the Tirol region of Austria is one of the area's finest. Kitzbuhel is considered the regions crown, with its midieval village, and home to the annual World Cup downhill skiing competition - whose highlight is the downhill with its famous Streif slope. I had never seen anything like it, with what seemed to be an endless range of slopes. We spent all day there, and only covered about 1/3 of the mountain. Happy Exploring. near kitz there is the beautiful village Kirchberg :))
Kitz is nice, but a little too much *Kitsch* for my taste. Next time you head out that way, I highly recommend staying at the 'Stanglwirt' in Going.
You might run into one of the many local and national and international *celebrities* whos photographs and autographs line the walls there.
I bumped into Franz Beckenbauer there, a few years ago.
There's plenty of slopes to explore in Scheffau, and Ellmau. Reserve a table for dinner in the Kuhstall-Stub'n at Stanglwirt.
Or go to that little Italian Restaurant 'Primavera' in the center of Going.
Their pizza is the world's best.
