Voters decided last month to put an end to indoor smoking at restaurants with a 61% against smoking with under 40% of voter turn out. This past weekend the ruling went into effect, so theoretically all smoking indoors should be a thing of the past. If the new laws will be enforced is another question.
Bar and restaurant owners can be fined up to €1000 or risk losing their license if they are repeat offenders. Smokers risk being only fined about €5.
It's yet to be seen how this will affect area businesses, however Oktoberfest celebrants will be granted a one-year reprieve since tents aren't yet equipped with areas for smokers.

Oktoberfest without smoking. It's hard to believe - especially given how difficult it is to get in/out late in the session. Maybe they will find a way to delay a few more years...
